For our first commercial, public-facing ticketed event we decided to make it epic! While the Light Lasts was a grand immersive play experience for a sold-out audience of 240 guests. Devised in collaboration with the New Zealand Maritime Museum, we took over the entire museum for an evening – canape’s, a cash bar, a nautical shanty band and rum tasting adding to the experience.
The museum was turned into the launch party aboard The Awatea – a trans-dimensional cruise ship fraught with mysteries for the guests to delve into.
Each guest was allocated their own unique role for the evening so that they could come dressed up or down as much as they desired, be they The Inquisitive Arachnologist, The Salubrious Navigator or The Gregarious Fortune Teller. Upon arrival each guest was given a welcome letter telling them their secret background and their inspiration for attending the party, as well as special quirks and prompts for beginning their adventure. Everything was designed so that each guest was the central character to their story unfolding across the evening.
With a supporting crew of actors and volunteers helping with the flow of the evening, the guests followed the arcs of eight different storylines, solving puzzles, discovering secrets, engaging in creative conversations and interacting with each other in fun and playful ways, making new friends and exploring the immersive world we had created from their own unique viewpoints.
