2018 Placemaking Week

The inaugural Tāmaki Makaurau Placemaking Week, an event initiated by New York’s Project for Public Spaces (www.pps.org), was held across 12-19th October 2018. Our contribution was to research, design and produce a set of twenty community ‘placemaking kits’ which were then lent out to community groups across Tāmaki Makaurau to inspire and help them devise their own placemaking activation in their neighbourhood.

Each kit provided all the information, structure and resources needed to get creative and work through a placemaking project – from research a space, coming up with great ideas, testing these out, designing and producing the necessary materials for the activation, installing and facilitating it and then any monitoring and reporting back that the end.

Devising these kits was an insightful and inspiring exercise for us and has fed into much of our subsequent placemaking work.
